i just watched all of monty python's flying circus, that super long documentary about them, life of brian and meaning of life pretty much back to back. i haven't seen any of this shit since i was a kid and frankly, it stands the test of time. i was definitely deeply familiar with the material (i chose not to watch holy grail again because i still basically know the entire movie by heart. some kids were having sex in high school, i was watching holy grail. kind of sad.), but most of it was still funny. psychedelic. a lot of things/references i never picked up on as a kid. slightly racist in an almost colonial way, lot's of scantily clad women... but smart and overall funny. in a lot of ways people are still rehashing most of these ideas in comedy today. anyway, jabberwocky is terry gilliam's first film (if you don't count holy grail, which he co-directed with terry jones) and it's good. funny. michael palin gets woken up by someone pissing in his face...
