the third of director stuart gordon's lovecraft adaptations (after RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND) is great because it doesn't take itself too seriously. there's definitely an element of classic b-movie campiness and humour that is lacking in a lot of modern horror. maybe not as "scary" as some films, but still a lot of fun. another great example of this style is sam raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL which was just released on dvd. worth checking out if you're a fan of the evil dead films.
