what the fuck is that?
when i was a kid i was obsessed with louisville, kentucky. i would listen to slint and palace brothers tapes on my walkman and daydream about this backwoodsy swamp town that my mind insisted louisville must be. well, when i finally went there on our first tour with black mountain, i learned that it's an actual regular city with big buildings and burger kings and everything. it was still kinda magical to me, being that it was as close as i'd been to the fabled "old south" at the time. i used to basically like any band from louisville (they pronounce it "loo-vul" down there), so i picked up the first (and only, i think) evergreen 7", "pants off" b/w "the queen song" and loved it. britt walford, the drummer from slint was in the band and i used to check out anything even vaguely related to slint. remember that band king kong? what was up with that shit? anyway, they released one self-titled full length album of simmering garage punk not long after. the song "whip cream bottle" is maybe the best song ever written for huffing whip-its to (ladyhawk is currently attempting to top that by writing the ultimate huffing ALBUM). this record was pretty hard to find up until it was re-issued by the temporary residence label a couple years ago. the re-issue includes the afformentioned 7" as well. you should obviously check it out, dog.

so i was flipping through one of those shitty daily newspapers this morning when i came across this cheery little gem written all in tiny print hidden near the top of the page:
"BRITISH SCIENTIST SAYS LIFE DOOMED BY CLIMATE WOES
climate change will wipe out most life on earth by the end of this century and mankind is too late to avert catastrophe, said leading british climate scientist james lovelock. his apocalyptic theory foresees crop failures, drought and death on an unprecedented scale."
well, nobody can say we didn't have a good run.

is that a baby fucking ewok?
so anyway, some dude commented on that video from a few days ago "this is no joke, man, they breed cats to look like that..." seriously? there aren't wild packs of munchkin cats prowling the jungles of central america? and while i'm no supporter of inhumane breeding practices, that shit is just too fucking CUTE! COME ON! actually, my mom has a munchkin cat named ronnie that she got from the s.p.c.a. (she also does not support feline inbreeding), and although she is cuter than a god damn button, it's true that ronnie is perhaps not all there (i hesitate to use a term as un-p.c. as retarded even when referring to a cat, but "developmentally challenged" doesn't really work). but i'll tell you, that little fucker can boogie! and don't we just love her to bits regardless of her disabilities.
so fair enough, guy, no more "jokes" about inbred cats.

man, i just walked home after the pierced arrows show and my ears are fucked. like screaming seashells. oh well. fred and toody cole are the same age as my parents and they rock harder than i can. within the first couple of songs, things up front were getting pretty rowdy, people being pushed into the drums and knocking them over, and toody just said "thanks for giving us such a nice reception, just don't anybody get hurt. i worry about you, i'm a mom."
um, your mom rocks.

he's wearing a snakes on a plane t-shirt.
the other day i was at work listening to joel phelps' awesome 2004 album customs
when i realized that i haven't seen him around lately. in case you don't know, i've basically been stalking joel. that's not true, but i might as well have been. anyway, i haven't seen him ONCE since before christmas. i normally used to see him several times a week within a 5 block radius of my house. maybe it's crazy, but a small part of me wonders if by some freakish chance he happened to read my prior entry about him and he just freaked out and said "fuck that creep!" and moved. god, if that's true i'm a fucking loser. anyway, you should listen to his music if you don't already. it's pretty emotional, but not too emo. he has a really cool voice and his guitar tone is always perfect (if you want to get nerdy about it). good songs that rock or don't, good lyrics that say something or don't, you know what i mean...
also, you should really check out jon-rae fletcher's brand new album called "oh, maria". here's a picture i found of j.r. riding an old-timey bicycle in a ladyhawk shirt.
darcy plays guitar on the album. apparently, they recorded the whole she-bang in only 3 hours! well, it doesn't sound like it. good job, guys!
shit is wild!
